What is Hyaluronic Acid?

It is an injectable anti-aging treatment made from hyaluronic acid to treat skin that is losing its elasticity and firmness with age. It is injected just below the surface of the skin where it rapidly disperses and reacts with the tissue to instantly increase hydration.

What is it good for? Immediate results

Immediately after treatment there is a noticeable improvement in skin tone, hydration as well as firmness, and lines are minimized. Over the next four weeks the Hyaluronic Acid treatment works to increase elastin and collagen production, effectively reshaping the skin and giving it a plumper, smoother and firmer appearance.

How does this treatment work?

Hyaluronic acid, a natural substance produced in our body and found in our skin, joints, and connective tissue, retains moisture in the skin and aids in the production of collagen. With age, hyaluronic acid production decreases and the skin looks duller and more dehydrated, with the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid is better known as a "filler" and is generally used to plump up the lips or to contour other areas of the face.

Hyaluronic Acid contains one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid available for an aesthetic treatment. And because of the development process that binds thermally, rather than chemically, the treatment acts as a high-performance moisturizer rather than a filler.

The characteristics of hyaluronic acid mean that it disperses quickly through the skin, unlike a gel filler that normally stays locally at the injection site. This instantly increases hydration in the tissues and will smooth fine lines and wrinkles, improving the overall texture of the skin over the next month. Because it creates limited volume, but hydrates the tissue and increases elasticity, it is an ideal treatment for areas such as the neck, around the mouth or hands, which can be difficult areas to treat with conventional dermal fillers. These areas benefit greatly from rehydration and long-term tissue stimulation.

Sessions and treatment duration

Hyaluronic Acid is a quick treatment, which takes about 15 minutes. It is injected just below the surface of the skin, using fine needles, at ten predetermined points; five injection points on each side of the face to give optimal results. The fine needle means that the treatment is painless, feels like a small scratch, and usually does not require a topical anesthetic cream prior to treatment.

At Sants Institut we only offer the full Hyaluronic Acid treatment consisting of two sessions, this is to ensure maximum results. If signs of aging are significant, an additional treatment may be recommended four to eight weeks later. We also recommend, after approximately six months, a maintenance treatment to prolong the effect.

The effects of Hyaluronic Acid are subtle but immediate; the skin will appear smoother and brighter immediately after your first treatment. Over time these effects are enhanced and can last up to six months, depending on skin type and lifestyle.

Is a skin test required prior to treatment?
